Grand Theft Auto III

It would be insane if this list didn't mention Grand Theft Auto III. An open world, sandbox game in three dimensions is so common nowadays that most can't fathom a video game industry without it. Well, before Grand Theft Auto III, it didn't exist. You were a silent protagonist in a leather jacket, and Liberty City was yours for the taking.
You could rise through the criminal ranks and earn money out the wazoo, or you could just pick up a rocket launcher, run to one of the secret buildings you could smash your way into, and then take out people on the street to watch your wanted level rise. The physics of the cars, the taxi missions, and the hours of radio produced for the game (Chatterbox for life!) -- it was a package so amazing it put every 2D, top-down GTA to shame and literally changed the video game industry. Not bad for a game that would be demonized for allowing players to have sex with a hooker, pay her and then kill her to get the money back.
Naughty show with passionable, still curious and courageous hearth attack game. Not necessary for children if we have a bad child. A wondrous game!
