Rank #9
Gran Turismo 4
Released: February 22, 2005

Nearly four years after Gran Turismo 3 was released, Polyphony finally unleashed the developer's PS2 masterpiece. By 2005, similar racing simulations on more powerful hardware such as Forza on Xbox and GTR on PC, threatened the re-up the standard of visuals in the genre. But Gran Turismo 4 blew ‘em away on the lowly PlayStation 2 hardware. Polyphony not only retooled the visuals and improved on the artwork, but it also added real 1080i HD ability to the game while maintaining an impressive (and necessary) 60 frames per second display rate.

Of course, Gran Turismo is about more than graphics. Gran Turismo 4's driving physics saw further improvements. The simulation career mode expanded and the number of cars in the game ballooned to more 700. Sure, maybe 699 of those cars may be variations of the Nissan Skyline*, but there's virtually something for every car fan, including rally cars and unlicensed F1 lookalikes.

Gran Turismo 4 introduced B-spec to the franchise. Other than making sense of the previous game's subtitle (A-spec), B-spec mode gives players a more managerial view of racing, making it possible to play through the game's simulation mode without ever having to actually race. It may sound a bit counterproductive to the point of the game, but B-spec layers well with the rest of the Gran Turismo features to make one of the most compelling racing games of all time.

* An exaggeration.

Extraordinary vehicles on spot. Beat them all Race untill you finish the line first.
Top perform sketch. Good rider who is finally reach the line faster than others. Great Game!
